Lynx Varsity drops high-scoring affair to Yankton, 13-8

Lynx Varsity fell 13-8 to Yankton on Wednesday despite racking up 14 hits and eight runs. 

Mitchell Hoover put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for Lynx Varsity. He doubled in the second and fifth innings. 

Justin Kathol got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He allowed four runs over five innings. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered 10 hits. 

Yankton's Brad UlmerAdam WalterAustin Johnson and Landon Withrowcombined for 10 hits and five RBIs. 

Ethan Horner was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings, walked three and struck out none. 

The top of the first saw Yankton take an early lead, 1-0.

Yankton stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the second, scoring three runs on a groundout by Johnson and a two-run triple by Withrow. 

Yankton got two-run boosts in each of the third, fourth, sixth, and ninth. In the third, Yankton scored on a two-run single by Walter, bringing home Mason Townsend and Colin Muth

After pushing across one run in the bottom of the third, Lynx Varsity faced just a 6-2 deficit. An error set off Lynx Varsity rally. Yankton stopped the rally after Justin Kathol got Horner to ground out. 

Yankton pushed two runs across in each of the fourth, sixth and ninth. In the fourth, Yankton scored on a sacrifice fly by Sheldan Gant, scoring Withrow. 

Two runs in the bottom of the fifth helped Lynx Varsity close its deficit to 8-4. An RBI double by Tyler Hintz and an RBI double by Hoover gave Lynx Varsity life. Kyle Bailey to end the Lynx Varsity threat. 

Three runs in the bottom of the seventh helped Lynx Varsity close its deficit to 11-7. A three-run double by Logan Hanzel triggered Lynx Varsity's comeback. Finally, Johnson induced an inning-ending strike out from Cal Kedik

Yankton built upon its lead with two runs in the ninth. The inning got off to a hot start when Ulmer singled.
