Rapid City Post 22 pulls away late for 14-5 Legion State Championship victory over Brandon Valley Lynx Varsity

It was a tight game until Rapid City Post 22 scored five late runs for the 14-5 victory over Brandon Valley Lynx Varsity on Sunday at Floyd Fitzgerald Stadium.

It was a good day at the plate for Brandon Valley Lynx Varsity's Nic Peterson. Nic went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. He doubled in the sixth inning and singled in the seventh inning.

Even though Lees allowed five runs over 6 2/3 innings he still recorded the victory. Lees struck out five, walked one and gave up seven hits.

Sullivan, Simons and Wevik helped lead Rapid City Post 22. They combined for six hits and four RBIs.

In the top of the first, Brandon Valley Lynx Varsity grabbed the early lead, 2-0. A single by Jared Mulder, bringing home Nic and Jacob Adams started the inning off.

The game was never in doubt after the third, as Rapid City Post 22 scored five runs on a sacrifice fly by Sullivan and four bases loaded walks.

A three-run seventh inning helped bring Brandon Valley Lynx Varsity within four. An RBI single by Luke Bauske, an RBI single by Nic, and an RBI double by Jacob Adams set off Brandon Valley Lynx Varsity rally. Finally, Zartrow got Tommy Gardner to ground out to end the threat.
